The MTC Program |
The MTC Program, created by The Good Worx Foundation, blends all aspects of mentoring into
one dynamic and unique program. A combination of mentoring, tutoring,
and life skills coaching are what we believe to be the ultimate strategy to meet each child we work with in his or her own reality.
For this reason, The MTC Program is easily adaptable to accommodate any age group. The MTC Program has been integrated into
school-based programs on the middle school level and the university level, as well as, remaining a stand-alone program.
School based programs can run as half-year or full-year programs depending on the need. Usually, programs are organized
into two portions; academics and life skills, with an optional third component of recreation depending on the age group.
There is no specific part for “mentoring” as mentoring occurs throughout every aspect of the program. In academics, students
work on homework, school projects, research, or other educational material and receive help from staff whenever necessary.
Life skills sessions are theme-based in what our students will recognize as “seminars.” Seminars cover key life skills,
troublesome aspects of life and can include any of the following:
-
All About the Money: A Guide to Finance and Budgeting
-
Awareness: How to Play it Safe and Sill Have Fun!
-
Career Planning
-
Communication Skills
-
Computers Skills
-
Decision-Making
-
Friendship and Peer Pressure: What is a true friend?
-
Interview Skills and Preparation
-
Networking
-
People/Social/Etiquette Skills
-
Resource Management: Making it Work for You
-
Resume and Cover-letter Writing
-
Social Life vs. Academics: Finding the Right Balance
-
Study Skills
-
Time Management
- Vision and Dreams: Where Do You See Yourself in the Future?
Overall, the goal of The MTC Program is to maximize the development of each student’s full potential and to promote a desire
for academics. We hope to convey the importance of academics for future investment, as well as, to provide students with
life skills that will better prepare them for the educational, social, and corporate world.
