What's Happening Now- GoodWorx Programming for 2009-2010
Due to its tremendous success in its first year at the Samsel Upper Elementary School in Sayreville, NJ, The GoodWorx MTC After-School Program has further extended its services to include two more grade levels! The GoodWorx MTC After-School Program is doubling the number of students accepted into the program for students in 4th and 5th grades as well as bringing 6th grade students from the middle school to continue the program at the SUES under the direction of Rachel DiGiacomo. Frances Ramirez will head the GoodWorx MTC Program at Sayreville Middle School, providing programming to 7th grade students as well. Also in the middle school, GoodWorx has partnered up with the school to provide students with the Skills for Success program headed by Heather Nicholas. Throughout the year, GoodWorx members will continue giving back to the community by hosting various Community Service events that include hosting a blood drive and visiting the Ronald McDonald house and Elijah’s Promise. Other Programs of distinction include the "Imagine That" Art Appreciation Program, The "Onward and Upward" Program, which consists of programming centered on transitional issues facing 5th and 8th graders as they prepare for their move to the next level of schooling, The "Read Something" literacy program, which promotes enjoyable reading for children and their families, and The GoodWorx Gang Prevention initiative which promotes real-world awareness of gang activity and provides alternative ways of dealing with that reality.

This year, 60 new students at Samsel Upper Elementary School will be given the opportunity to register for the GoodWorx MTC After-School program. The total number of students enrolled in the program at the SUES will double from 48 to approximately 100 students!.

The GoodWorx Foundation MTC Program has entered the 4th year of a programming partnership with New Jersey City University. The partnership is a collaborative effort to support the NCAA CHAMPS Life Skills Program at NJCU. GoodWorx provides Mentoring and Life-Skills coaching to over 100 Student-Athletes in an effort to enrich the undergraduate experience and improve overall retention rates. This initiative has proven to be very successful in the pilot program and the 2 full years of operation. NJCU and The GoodWorx Foundation have recommitted to lead this program into the future and attempt to service 250 student-athletes within 3 years. This year marks an important addition to the GoodWorx staff. Recent NJCU graduate Alex Mirabel will join the GoodWorx/NJCU MTC Program staff after graduating with a degree in History. Alex will provide Administrative Assistance for the Program for which he was an original member of 4 years ago. GoodWorx Chairman Jeffrey Jordan states “Alex was one of my favorite students. He was very respectful and focused throughout. I know he will be successful in any arena that he chooses. I welcome his addition to our staff and believe he will be a huge asset with his experience. He will now begin to give back in the spirit for which this program was created.”
